Kreeka lippu kandev Sea Diamond uppus reede öösel Santorini saare lähedal.

Neljapäeval kivide otsa sõitnud matkelaeva pardal oli õnnetuse hetkel ligi 1600 reisijat ja meeskonnaliiget. Peale madalikule sõitmist saatis laev välja hädasignaali. 3 tundi kestnud evakuatsioon möödus reisijate väidete kohaselt rahulikult. 15 tundi peale õnnetust laev uppus. Kadunuks on jäänud 2 Prantsusmaa kodanikku, 45-aastane mees ja tema 16-aastane tütar.

Laev oli tagasiteel Pireuse sadamasse peale 5-päevast reisi saarte vahel. Matkelaevale tuli appi 6 mereväe helikopterit, mitu sõjalaeva ja mitmed kaubalaevad. Millisel põhjusel laevaõnnetus juhtus, seda hetkel ei teata.

Wikipedia aga ütleb, et pärast evakuatsiooni tõmmati laev lahti ning pukseeriti sadamasse remonttöödeks. Tundub, et nad samm sündmustest ees. Sama oli Ilvese puhul, kes sai Wikipedia andmeil Eesti presidendiks veel enne, kui häälketustulemused välja kuulutati. Jah, kuskil struktuurides on tõesti kallutatud jõud.
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Diamond) ütleb tõesti, et laev tõmmati kividelt lahti ning 12-kraadine kreen kadus. Edasi mainivad ära, et laev siiski uppus ning lebab hetkel 200 meetri sügavusel. Sama tegi ka BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6532235.stm).
Jah, hetkel seal tõesti selline info, ent kui mina lugesin, siis uppumist ei olnud veel mainitud. Siis oli vaid lahtitõmbamine, kreeni stabiliseerumine ning sadamasse pukserimine. Kena, et Wikipedia nii operatiivne on!
Greek rescuers will deploy a robot submarine to search for the bodies of two French tourists believed to have drowned when a cruise ship sank off a resort island in the Aegean Sea last week, reported the Houston Chronicle. The ship’s captain blamed the accident on sea currents that swept the Sea Diamond onto a charted reef off the island of Santorini, tearing a hole in the ship’s hull.
According to reports, more than 50 tons of the ship’s fuel leaked after the sinking, some of which has washed ashore. An oceanographic vessel is expected to arrive on the island to deploy the unmanned sub in an attempt to locate the missing passengers and the ship’s voyage data recorder, the Merchant Marine Ministry said. Most of the hull is 320 feet below the water’s surface inside a sea-filled crater caused by a volcanic eruption 3,500 years ago. But officials fear the ship’s position is not yet stable.
The rest of the passengers reached safety after scrambling onto lifeboats, crossing narrow gangways and climbing down rope ladders. The Sea Diamond sunk some 15 hours later, causing an oil slick that experts tried to contain Monday. Plans were also made to seal off or remove the remaining 400 tons from the wreckage.
